Frequently Asked Questions

Lawn Care

Why do weeds continue to grow in your treated lawn? Weeds can continue to grow in a treated lawn due to various factors such as seeds blowing in from neighboring areas, incomplete eradication of weed roots, or emergence of new weed seeds present in the soil. Additionally, environmental conditions and maintenance practices can also influence weed growth.

Do we offer an organic lawn treatment plan? Yes, we offer organic lawn treatment plans tailored to the specific needs of your lawn. Our organic treatments focus on promoting soil health, enhancing root development, and maintaining a lush, green lawn using natural and sustainable methods. This plan does not include any herbicides or pesticides.

What is the difference between fertilizer vs. soil conditioner? Fertilizer provides essential nutrients to plants to support healthy growth, while soil conditioner improves the physical properties of the soil, such as structure, drainage, and water retention. While both are beneficial for lawn health, they serve different purposes in optimizing soil and plant health.

Do we offer a free weed spray between treatments? Yes, if you signup for our premium 7-step lawn plan, we provide complimentary weed sprays between scheduled treatments to address any weed outbreaks and maintain the integrity of your lawn. Our goal is to ensure your lawn remains weed-free and healthy throughout the season.

What is Milky Spore and is it safe for people and pets? Milky Spore is a naturally occurring bacterium that targets the larvae of Japanese beetles, effectively controlling their population in lawns and gardens. It is considered safe for people, pets, and beneficial insects, making it an environmentally-friendly option for beetle control.

Does Milky Spore control/stop adult beetles from entering your yard and eating your plants? While Milky Spore primarily targets the larvae stage of Japanese beetles, it can help reduce adult beetle populations over time by disrupting their life cycle. However, additional control measures may be necessary to manage adult beetle activity effectively.

What does our lawn care plan offer that others do not? Our lawn care plan offers personalized attention, customized treatments, and expert advice from our experienced team. We prioritize the health and beauty of your lawn, employing advanced techniques and quality products to achieve superior results that surpass those of other providers.

What type of fertilizer and soil conditioners do we use? We use a combination of high-quality fertilizers and soil conditioners tailored to the specific needs of your lawn. Our products are carefully selected for their effectiveness, safety, and environmental sustainability, ensuring optimal results without compromising soil or plant health.

Do we provide lawn treatments or services in July? July is typically a time of high heat and stress for lawns, which can make treatments less effective and potentially harmful to grass. We avoid treating lawns during this period to minimize stress on the turf and ensure the best possible outcomes for your lawn health. If we do make an application in July we limit the herbicide used and limit the nitrogen level in any fertilizer applied.

Are the herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers we use safe for people and pets? Yes, the products we use are carefully selected for their safety and efficacy. We prioritize the use of environmentally-friendly and pet-friendly products, minimizing any potential risks to your family, pets, or the environment.

Do we give you notice before we make an application? Yes, we provide advance notice before making any application to your lawn. This allows you to plan accordingly and ensures that you are informed about the treatments being performed on your property.

Seeding

What type of seed do we use? We currently offer the following mixes:
70/30 (70% Kentucky Bluegrass + 30% Perennial Rye Grass)
100% RPR Perennial Rye Grass (Yellow Jacket coated)
Sun/Shade Value Mix (certified Fescue, Rye Grass and Kentucky Bluegrass mix)
We also offer 100% Kentucky Bluegrass, Fine Fescue (full shade) and Tall Fescue upon special request and for additional cost.

What is the best seeding service for your lawn? Most residential lawns in the Littleton and Highlands Ranch area have mostly Kentucky Bluegrass and/or Rye Grass. We have found that seeding a lawn with our 70/30 premium grass seed mix gives all the benefits from both seed types. We offer our 100% RPR Rye Grass when quick germination is required or preferred. Our seasonal value mix is best used for our Triple Play maintenance service because it germinates quickly in all soil types and blends nicely with existing lawns.

Should you use top soil or peat moss or aerate or split seed or rototill before seeding? Grass seed will not germinate if it does not have good seed to soil contact. This is achieved by prepping the area properly prior to spreading the seed. Mowing (bagging clippings) your existing lawn short (1-2 inches) and then hand or power rake the area will expose bare dirt areas properly for seed to contact and germinate. Completing a core aeration over an established lawn or rototilling a new area prior to seeding will expose more soil surface for the seed to make contact. A split seeder and or top soil/peat moss can be used over an existing lawn or a new bare dirt area.

How long will it take for the seed to sprout or germinate? Cool season grass seed best germinates when ground or soil temperatures are between 50 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the soil reaches this temperature range and minimum growing standards are available the following chart shows the germination time for different cool season grass seed:
Fescue = 7-14 days
Kentucky Bluegrass = 14-30 days
Ryegrass = 5-10 days
