Your complete customer guide
New lawn success starts before the seed.
What to do before we arrive, what happens during your service, and exactly how to care for your lawn afterward.
Start with preparationWhat to expect
Choose the right level of renewal.
Our services progress from a seasonal boost to intensive whole-lawn renovation and focused bare-spot repair.
A strong seasonal boost
Power Seeding
Two passes with a core aerator, starter fertilizer, and 3 lb of seed per 1,000 sq ft.
Seed: Typically a sports field mix or sun-and-shade mix.
High-rate, soil-level seeding
GreenBoost Lawn Renewal
A slit-seeding machine opens narrow grooves and sows directly into the soil at 5–8 lb per 1,000 sq ft. Starter fertilizer is included.
Seed: Typically 100% Kentucky bluegrass (KBG), or tall fescue when the seeding window is shorter.
Our most complete whole-lawn process
Lawn Renewal
Everything in GreenBoost, preceded by high-density core aeration. The slit-seeder breaks up some plugs, improving seed-to-soil contact and creating a thin protective layer over the seed.
Seed: Selected for the season and site conditions.
Focused repair for bare areas
Lawn Patching
We till or rake bare areas, remove debris and dead turf, loosen the surface, apply seed at 8–10 lb per 1,000 sq ft, add a thin cover of topsoil or peat moss, and apply starter fertilizer.
May be added to another service; “PLUS” appears in the service title. Priced and applied per square foot.
Before service
Prepare for maximum seed-to-soil contact.
Complete every item before our crew arrives. Debris removal is included for Lawn Patching.
Mow short and bag clippings
Short turf gives seedlings more time to establish. We do not reschedule when the lawn has not been mowed.
Clear lawn and access paths
Remove toys, furniture, hoses, decorations, pet waste, leaves, branches, and debris. We do not move customer items.
Mark hidden hazards
Flag sprinkler heads, shallow covers, invisible fence wires, drains, lighting wires, and anything that could damage—or be damaged by—our equipment.
Water deeply the night before
Moist soil allows deeper aeration plugs. Water deeply without leaving the lawn saturated, muddy, or puddled.
Pause lawn products
Do not apply fertilizer, soil conditioners, weed control, or pest products unless approved. Contact us if weed control was applied within the last two months.
Immediately after service
Protect the seed. Control the moisture.
Your care during the first few weeks has the greatest effect on the final result.
Keep everyone off
Remove all traffic—including pets, children, mowing, and maintenance—until new grass reaches 2–3 inches. Traffic moves seed, compacts wet soil, and lowers germination.
Keep the surface consistently moist
In a typical season, water lightly 2–4 times daily—often morning, midday, and late afternoon. Use short cycles without puddling, runoff, or washing seed away.
Adapt for water restrictions
If automatic watering is limited to two days weekly, use those days for thorough coverage and hand-water dry areas between them whenever permitted. One complete dry-out can reduce germination.
Wait to mow
Do not mow until seedlings are 2–3 inches tall and the soil is firm. If existing grass becomes unmanageably tall, gently string-trim while minimizing steps.
Add nothing else
Do not apply extra fertilizer, soil conditioners, weed or pest control, or dump any chemical or product on the lawn. Contact us first.
Wind, heat, shade, slope, soil, and sprinkler coverage change drying speed. Check several times daily. The seedbed should look dark and feel damp, never flooded or crust-dry. Avoid overnight watering when possible.
Once seedlings are growing
Transition to a healthy lawn.
Reduce protection and watering gradually as roots develop.
Expect uneven timing
Varieties germinate at different speeds. Kentucky bluegrass can take 14–28 days or longer in cool soil. Early thin areas are not automatically a failure.
Use a sharp blade
Mow at 2–3 inches on firm soil. Use a lightweight mower if possible, turn gently, and remove no more than one-third of the blade.
Water deeper, less often
Gradually reduce frequency while increasing duration to encourage deeper roots. Never change abruptly or allow young turf to wilt.
Protect young turf
Limit heavy play and pet traffic for several more weeks. Remove leaves gently. Ask us before weed control; many products require several mowings first.
Remember: Germination and final density depend on weather, irrigation coverage, soil conditions, seed movement, and aftercare. Some areas may need follow-up seeding.
